The mission statement of the Cheverus Robotics team is to foster excellence in leadership, technical skills, communication, and knowledge. We provide opportunities for cooperative learning, growth, and real world applications of STEM knowledge through a self-sustaining, student-led team.
FIRST Team 5265 was founded in 2013. Gerry Wagner II contacted Miss Luce who initiated creation of the team through Joan Renger. The team started with an enthusiastic group of 20 students from Cheverus High School. There are 7 mentors, in addition to 3 Cheverus faculty members. The team was awarded the 2014 “Rookie Inspiration Award” at its first meet at UNH. They made it through elimination rounds into the quarter finals at their second meet. FIRST was founded in 1989 to inspire young people’s interest and participation in science and technology. FIRST designs accessible, innovative programs that motivate young people to pursue education and career opportunities in science, technology, engineering, and math, while building self-confidence, knowledge, and life skills.
FIRST releases a challenge each January allowing teams across the world the opportunity to design, build, and program robots which meet the specifications of the challenge. Each challenge is different and challenging, but the participants grow in their skills and always rise to the challenge. With small groups focused on each complex part of creating a successful team, it becomes easier to focus on small details in creating a successful robot. With a spirit team, a safety captain, a programming team, and a build team, the jobs are split up enough to aid the stress of creating the robot.
